Hi,every one my name is Malena. I first want to tell you all that my heart goes out to each and every one of you. I believe that there truely are wonderful doctors out there that know what they are doing and can make a real difference in our lives . I too had a spinal fusion to my L5,L4 and I was one of those very lucky people that was left with a brand new back unfortunately that soon ended. I had 4 falls at my job and I am back to where I first started. I recently had an MRI taken of my back it shows that I have 5 bulging disc and I have compresion to my nerve roots on my L3,L4,and L5. It's been a year since I have worked also It's a worker's comp.claim so every step to getting the help or service I need to them is like pulling out there teeth they don't want to spend any money at all, well that's beside the point. I still don't know If im going to have surgery because they don't want to spend the money. I pray for each and every one of you, please don't give up. These are our trials and tribulation that test our faith in god and in people. God bless you all. Your friend, Malena

My new surgeon told me today I have no disc in S-1 L-5 and 1/3 of a disk in l-4 l-5. S1 is bone to bone contact. Wishing I was dead with that one. Constant pain 24/7.They want to do a fussion by removing both ruptured discs and keep a rod in ther for stability. I hear froma coworker it is a miracle and pain is gone when you wake up cept for the surgery part is sore. How long for recovery after 2 day hospital stay and this procedure? I work on Autocad at work I am hoping to get back to work quick. Is it possible?

Hello. In May of 2008, I had an anterior lumbar fusion on my L-4 L-5 disc. The disc was removed and replaced. The doctor also added rods and screws. I HAVE BEEN IN AGONY EVER SINCE!!!!!!!!!! There is nothing I can do to get relief. I am on strong pain meds, but they barely help me. I live in Selma, Alabama and had the operation in Montgomery, Alabama. The doctor's name is Mike Davis. AFTER THE SURGERY, HE WANTED NOTHING MORE TO DO WITH ME. It is all I can do just to take a shower every day. I AM IN PAIN 24/7 AND AM AT THE END OF MY ROPE WITH THIS SITUATION. I am only able to sleep just a couple of hours a night and only then with the help of Xanax. My back is much worse and don't know how much longer I can keep going. I have been to other surgeons hoping to find one to help me, only to be told there is nothing that can be done. Only one dr. said he could do something for me, but he would not even take the time to answer any of my questions. He wants to remove my hardware, but when I tried to ask questions about that I was told in a very rude way to think about it and come back in a month!!! This dr. is in Montgomery also, and his name is Dr. Tim Holt. If anyone can be of any help to me, PLEASE let me know. I just turned 42 years old in July and can't believe this is to be the rest of my life. I TRULY UNDERSTAND EVERYONE'S PROBLEMS ON THIS SITE, AND HOPE THE BEST FOR EVERYONE!!!!! THANK YOU FOR READING THIS AND GOD BLESS US ALL!! Terry

I too am having problems. I have had fusion of L4-S1 I think :) anyway that was in 2004, The pain was deminiched but never totally gone. Have been on meds ever since. Recent mri indicates cord compression in the central canal with a 8mm diameter.
I also had the spondlyothsis at l4-l5 which was improved however now has a 1/4 inch slippage. I have seen spine and pain specialists. I am not sure they really listen. I have no idea if I have to have another surgery or not, see the doc next week. I understand the frustrations you are having. I also have had 2 cervical spine surgerys and am fused from c2-c4, c5-c7. surgery was last Jan and I am still in continuios pain. I am seeing a different specialist at the end of July to have a second opinion. My pain is all over the place. I have good days now and then but the are far outweighed by the bad days. I wish you well.

i had surgery 6 years ago, they removed disc L3 from my spinal canal which was blockin the nerves going into my legs. it took so long to get a dr appt, by that time i was paralyzed in both legs. after the surgery i have gotten the feeling back in the right leg but not the left. 6 years later im still in pain and still no feeling in my leg they want to fuse discs 3-5, and put rods on each side of my spine so i will have more mobility than i do now. i just want to get some opinions of those who had spinal fusion at least a year ago to hear the outcome if its a good idea or bad idea for this second surgery or will i be back in the same position 6 years from now? thanks for ur comments.

I have a closed L&I claim, because they say I am fixed and stable.I laugh when the I.M.E said that.I told them you have know idea of how I live, and not able to do normal life duties.
I have been a CNA for 22 years caring for the sick. And I to lost my job, because I could not perform my duties.
I am wishing for surgery,to take care of this nasty pain,I have thats going down my left leg and numness that,s in my foot. The L&I Dr. don't lissen to their pt's,they only care about saving money for the state.I have paid my dues, now its time they take care of me.Yes they took real care of me,they closed my case.
Now my Lawyer is taking on the state.Getting a lawyer was the smart thing I ever did.I know someday I will get better, its just I have to be patient.Well its been two years since my accident. And I just want somebody out there in the world, who can give me some hope in this matter.

                    Thank you

Has anyone had any experience with Dr. Madj in Louisville, KY....surgery was recommended, and I have been sent to see him about it, it scares the heck out of me, but the pain is getting to be too much to handle, and I am worried that surgery may even make it worse, I am 51 years old, Thanks

I am in desperate need of help. I am 32 and in constant agony from pain in my right leg. In feb an MRI showed a bulging disc between L5 and S1 but I did not start experiancing persistant symptoms until palm sunday when I slipped and twisted my back. I immediately felt a sharp pain run from my back down my right leg and have been in misery ever since. I had a 2nd MRI which showed an annular tear of th disc. I have undergon the steroid injection with very temporary relief. The pain meds are not even helping that much anymore. I have been to the ER 3 times and admitted for 4 days. My leg tremors and jumps from the pain and I can barely put weight on the right leg without pain shooting up into my back. Currently I have to Use a walker in order to go back and fourth to the bathroom because my leg loses feeling and I fall. The pain seems to start in the top portion of the buttockas and runs all the way down to the foot. It is a sharp stabbing pain that radiates down the leg and into the foot. I have numbness in my toes and marked weakness. The surgeon that say me in the hospital refused to even consider doing surgery. Everyday I am in agony the meds are not helping, if I go to ER i get accused of being a drug addict and I am at my wits end. I am an RN and have not been able to work or enjoy much of anything as any activity puts me in agony. Anyone out there who can help or give me some direction I am in agony and don't know how much more I can take

I had cortisone injections in my spine 2002, 2004, 2006, a tortoise shell brace, tens machine, etc. Then I had a laminectomy, fusion and metal rods and screws L2 - S1 in Oct 2002. At first it seem a little better - better than after the surgery but I was on really strong pain meds. After a few months I found that everything was worse. L1 herniated and the fusion did not fuse, and even with strong pain meds the pain is unbearable - much worse than before the surgery.
