Natural Sciatica Relief
When it comes to trying to find the best natural sciatica relief treatment, it is important that people understand just what it is. Too often people will get sciataca muddled up with other medical conditions.
The problem is that sciatica is a set of symptoms rather than it actually being a diagnosis in itself. Therefore before it can be treated using either traditional prescribed medications or natural ones, a doctor will need to carry out various tests in order to give the correct diagnosis.
Normally when sciataca has been diagnosed by a doctor they will either provide their patient with anti-inflammatory drugs to treat it. However if the condition has become so severe then the only way in which it may well be treated is through the use of surgery. But occasionally a doctor will try other forms of treatment such as manipulation of the spine, massage or physical therapy and will only resort to using surgery if all other recommended courses of treatment fail.
However there are more natural ways in which a person can treat this condition without them having to resort to using medications which can have other side effects. Although a lot of doctors will recommend that their patients take as much bed rest as possible, in a lot of cases this can actually make the condition worse rather than helping to alleviate the symptoms.

Yes it is important that a person does rest for a couple of days after the symptoms have appeared but after this they should take up some form of light exercise. Preferably they should be looking to do exercises which will help to strengthen and stretch the muscles in their back.
The problem with sciataca is that once the muscles in the back become weak they will be unable to support the back correctly and this in turn will increase the amount of pain that the person is feeling. But as well as carrying out these exercises, a person will need to look at the way they sit and stand.
If their posture is wrong when they are sitting and standing, unfortunately doing the exercises will provide the person with only a small amount of relief from the condition. It is important that when using these exercises a person should be carrying them out twice a day and should only be doing them under the supervision of an expert such as a fitness instructor.
As well as using exercises in order to provide you with natural sciatica relief from the pain, a person may want to try using certain essential oils as well. These include certain properties within them which are ideal for treating the various symptoms and helping to relieve the pain a person will feel when suffering from sciatica.

Has anyone tried to incorporate massage therapy? Usually impingment of the sciatic nerve is due to the Piriformis or Glut. Medius muscles. Also, any of the deep 6 lateral hip rotators may need to be released. True Sciatica radiates pain down the leg and up the back. Piriformis Muscle syndrome refers pain down the leg only. Don’t be a guinea pig to the wacky world of Western Science, try an Alternative Therapy, you’d be surprised!!!!!

Hi Carol,
I’m so sorry to hear and feel the stress that this is causing you. I would suggest, before going to a doctor of western medicine, that you look elsewhere. As in a D.C., doctor of chiropractic. You would get an x-ray, so that the doctor can see if there is a disc problem or a rotation in your vertebral column. You should seek a doctor who uses nonforce adjustments, utilizing an activator to move the vertebrae back in place. Remember, in the days of the Baby Boomers, and past, a doctor was like GOD, “my doctor said”, well they aren’t, an any alternative therapy is better than the knife. I will push you some positive energy and healing thoughts……namaste, Aly

I’m 30 years old and have had lower back problems off and on for the last 11 years. Last Feb 2008 it turned into scatica. I don’t have insurance so I had to go to the ER. I still have numbness in my left calf, shooting pains in my lower back and left and right sides of my buttocks. I don’t have an offical Dignosis.

I had my double fusion back surgery on Sept 15, had sciatic nerve problem before surgery, dr, said I had one pissed off nerve. It is hurting worse since surgery, they prescribed me Lyrica, doesn’t seem to be helping. Suggestions anyone?
By Lisa S on Nov 15, 2009 | Reply
In 1998 i had a spinal fusion at L-5…as of June 2007 I overdid it one day and could not walk the next day…its all sciatic…the doctor found out I had herniated disc and later we also found that theres also lots of scar tissue sitting on the sciatic nerves from the previous surgery in 1998…he did cortisone shots while seeing all he did on the screen in out patient surgery…now the disc is better but the scar tissue is still growing and severely pinching that nerve…so now any shots of any kind cant be given since the doctor cant see what hes doing on the screen..I take motrin, tylenol, morphine, and lyrica..some days if I let it get away from me its uncontrolable pain that all I can do is knock myself out and go to sleep! I USE to be a secretary but had to quit as most of my job was sitting and could not do it anymore..standing still for even for a little while really hurts to…The only thing that helps sometimes is walking or of course laying down on my bed with the memory foam and pillows…on my side is best..now, my doc wants me to put in the electrical box that COULD block the pain but I would have to wear a transmitter like thing on my belt with wires sticking out of my back!!! I dont want that!! Im a woman and would be too self conscious of it with my mate… my statement is there has to be SOME KIND of laser type and non-invasive surgery that can be done in order to break all this scar tissue for me..i saw it on the screen and I literally cried as it looked like some of kind of huge tumor! and since theres so much of it…please help…with all of the technology in the world there has to be a better way! I need pain relief and need to be able to live the lifestyle I use to have…working, gardening, kayaking, golfing, and so on…I 47..but have the body and mind of a 35 year old…thank you!

Im a 22 year old male with cervical disc disease in my neck, possibly from an old concussion, the pain is excruciating and getting worse, im on hydrocodone and advil, but its not enough, i feel like i need more meds to even be close to comfortable, thank you for tellin us about your fusion surgery woes helps me decide what im gonna do.

As far chiropractic care, just having an xray and someone crack your back makes do difference on your discs, because your discs arent made of bone… Ct scans and MRI’s are required for real help. Western medicine is a safer bet than chiropractic care by itself.

In 1989 I injured my back and had to have low back surgery.I went through 4 surgerys and still was not able to function. Had low back pain from day one. In 1993 I had another surgery for a 4 level fussion which was successful as far as the back not having movement. I was put on VICODIN for pain which worked fine. As time went by my insurance company would only cover the genaric witch is Hydrocodin. It did nothing for pain relief so I ask the Pharmacist why the gineric was not working. I was informed that Hydrocodin does not have the 5000 mg. of Tylenol and different inert ingredients. I can take 4 Hydrocodin with no help to pain relief, where 1 Vicodin gete rid of most of the pain. I have been on Vicodin for oooover 20 years. Hope this helps in your case.

Carol,
I was searching the netbecause I am experiencing sciatic nerve pain. This is my first episode and it has been pretty bad. However I wanted to offer this to you, please don’t let the pain and discomfort consume you. Consider yourself in a battle and know that you are the winner. Call on god to help you and ask for prayer from all you know. I was having a lot of negative thinking around the severe pain but I kept praying and researching. I am currently doing physical therapy which is difficult but provides some relief.. None of the four prescriptions I
have gotten have helped. Please know that you can get some relief, don’t give up and ask God to heal and guide you. He will! Keeping you in prayer! Minister Brenda Brown

I’m a middle aged massage therapist who was virtually incapacitated due to sciatic nerve pain. Giving massages was very difficult because my right hip and leg were hurting so much. Stretching gave partial, temporary relief. Yesterday I tried accupuncture, never believing it would actually work. Last night I was pain free for the first time in 2 months. When walking, there is slight soreness, but even then, the pain is about 80% less. The accupuncturist suggested 4 treatments, and I am following through on them. I’m truly amazed. And the needles didn’t hurt at all.

Suffering from D.D.D. for several yrs. Have done phys thrpy, epidurals, and chiropractor. With the disc problems I’d never had sciatic pain until the past 2 months. Even w/ spinal manipulation it is not getting any better and seems to radiate around the hip area down the thigh then intensifies in and around the knee. Is this normal? Everything I’ve read indicates straight down as far as the foot, but I’ve not seen anything about radiating around the knee.

I have a herniated disc that the doctor said did not require surgery. However, the pain has intensified over the past 6 years and I am in pain daily, especially if I experience even a tiny bit of stress or move to bend, etc. I have wondered whether Neurontin would help…I hate taking any drugs whatsoever but tylenol, etc are no longer effective and I have pain at night now laying on my sides.

Phyllis, I read yours and others posts and felt compelled to write you. my heart goes out to you because I know it is so hard dealing with life and pain without any support.
I want to tell you, if you want love and support you can turn to the Lord, I do not know anything about you, and if you already are a believer than wonderful. In case your not, I want to encourage you to give God a chance, He will see you thru all your troubles. We have something in common, I to have fibromyalgia, plus severe osteoarthrtis in my hips. I’m 54, and what I have learned from hard knocks in this life is people will let us down, even the most sensitive nicest ones in the world because no one is perfect. But God who sent His son to die for us will never let us down. All you gotta do is believe, and read the bible so you can get to know Him, and start praying to Him as if He is your best friend, He wants to be. I wish you the very best, and hope to hear back from you.
From someone who cares, Debbie
