I am in my 60's and have had scoliosis since childhood- basically untreated but I do see a chirpractor weekly. I do Pilates, both machine and mat exercises, and just found this site. Is Pilates contraindicative for quite severe scoliosis?

re my decompression lamenectomy spinal fusion i cage and 2 screws for the one rod I finally got to feeling good surgery was March 23 my 3month dr check said all was healed wouldn't have to see him again. On Saturday I overdid it picked my 20 pound grandson up from the floor a few times. Now my lower back hurts so bad the pain pills aren't even helping. Mornings are better than evenings. Is it possible to break cage or rod after it is healed from picking up grandson from the floor? or will this just go away again eventually? Haven't called Dr. yet too scared of what the results may be!!!! I never want to go through another surgery never it was terrible. So if anyone has any advice please please respond to this or email me at clydejudy7@gmail.com.

I have had 2 Laminectomy's one in 1995 and one in 1997. These were recommended due to Degeneratie Disc Disease. I have recently under went another surgery, Laminectomy with insertion of rods and screws. It has been 6 weeks now and I feel I just exchanged one kind of pain for another. I still have a tingling in my legs, though different than before. I feel the "hardware" in my back I guess that keeps me straight. I have yet to try the stairs as when I first tried them, for Dr's appt. I was down for a day and a half after. It just wore me out. I wish I had done my research a little more before undergoing this again. My first 2 surgeries were done by an Orthopedic Surgeon, this one was performed by a
neurosurgeon. Good luck.

Hello. In May of 2008, I had an anterior lumbar fusion on my L-4 L-5 disc. The disc was removed and replaced. The doctor also added rods and screws. I HAVE BEEN IN AGONY EVER SINCE!!!!!!!!!! There is nothing I can do to get relief. I am on strong pain meds, but they barely help me. I live in Selma, Alabama and had the operation in Montgomery, Alabama. The doctor's name is Mike Davis. AFTER THE SURGERY, HE WANTED NOTHING MORE TO DO WITH ME. It is all I can do just to take a shower every day. I AM IN PAIN 24/7 AND AM AT THE END OF MY ROPE WITH THIS SITUATION. I am only able to sleep just a couple of hours a night and only then with the help of Xanax. My back is much worse and don't know how much longer I can keep going. I have been to other surgeons hoping to find one to help me, only to be told there is nothing that can be done. Only one dr. said he could do something for me, but he would not even take the time to answer any of my questions. He wants to remove my hardware, but when I tried to ask questions about that I was told in a very rude way to think about it and come back in a month!!! This dr. is in Montgomery also, and his name is Dr. Tim Holt. If anyone can be of any help to me, PLEASE let me know. I just turned 42 years old in July and can't believe this is to be the rest of my life. I TRULY UNDERSTAND EVERYONE'S PROBLEMS ON THIS SITE, AND HOPE THE BEST FOR EVERYONE!!!!! THANK YOU FOR READING THIS AND GOD BLESS US ALL!! Terry

Hi, i am 49yrs old i have been dealing with ddd for three yrs now, i worked for one yr with pain to the point where i was stalking products sitting on the floor, so in that time it was best to go on dissability and i have been since and its two years not working now, i have ddd from my L3 to my S1 and on pain killers , this has effected me in so many ways, and i am sure most of you ddd understand all this! i also had all the test and the discogram was the test that told my story where as the mri showed i had some degenrative issues, but also been thru all the physio and chiropractor and spents thousands which never help me so in that its not for everyone and personally i do not think practioners know what is best but to give you pain killers to lesson the pain, but in that it only helps till you have to up the dose so now u have another problem other than pain, which is addiction, but my self i montitor my meds hoping i am not addicted i would rather have a little pain and suffer to which it will not cause me to crazy, which i fine i does get to me emotionally and has effected my quality of life, i am depressed but can not take any depressants due to contradiction with my meds, so in the long run i am thinking some thing i have to live with as i find there is no solution to my ddd and the levels of my disc, try to do the best i can to be positive but in the end i am beaten down with pain and the things i can not do anymore! so for all you suffers do whats best for you and hopefully some miracle comes along and we can improve our lives, HERES TO HOPE, but i am thinking thats along way away!!!!

Could u explain this to me:
L4-L5: Mild ligamentum flavum thickening. There is a posterolateral to far lateral disc protrusion and anannular tear. The exiting L4 nerve is posteriorlydisplaced at the level of the distal foramen and proximal extraforaminal space.

L5-S1: There are two areas of linear soft tissue signal seen at the right neural foramen at this level that could represent bifid nerve or two seperate nerves.

I had surgery already in 2009

I have a very strange story to tell. In 1991 I was involved in a very serious auto accident while wearing a shoulder harness and seatbelt. I went to hospital in extreme pain. The obvious was that I had scalped by hair in the center of my head from hitting the steering wheel. The shoulder harness allowed me to slip slightly sideways out of the harness enough to hit the wheel. Cat scan was only test ordered and radiologist siad it was unremarkable and my cervical spine was fine. continued incredible pain caused me to get second opinion from ortho surgen. Ortho surgen looked at cat scan and ordered another one because he saw what looked like a C3 lateral fracture. The second cat scan did shoe inconclusive shadow at C3 and my ortho surgen sent me for therapy for a year. Pain got worse with every therapy session until I went to my own personal primary care doctor who prescribed injectable stadol because I didn't want opiates. This and a portabel tens unit made everyday pain tolerable, but the therapy sessions made it impossible. I toughed it out and after therapy was over I went to pain management clinic (a very legitimate one) which did facet injections with temporary relief, epidurals which did not help (don't get these), and oxycontin, oycodone, and celebrex. I had good enough pain control to go back to work as HVAC technician, but still had pain with the meds. Continued from 1992 until today July 2010 with ever increasing and changing narcotics, Lyrica(recommended), Voltaren, baclofen, amitriptaline, oxycodone, and ms contin. Here is the strange thing. None of the pain management doctors or orthopedics every ordered a static xray series until I went to a urgent care center todayand the doctor sent me to his xray tech. When he got the xrays on his light board he actually exclaimed, "Holy God", I have never seen this. this doctor has a 30 year history as a orthopedic specialist, but not surgery. He showed me on my xray that my C3 spinous process had been shoved down so hard that it had pushed the C4 spinous process down. The injury is so old that the C3-C4 spinous process are fused naturaly resulting in tilted vertabrae which the doctor stated should cause so much nerve impingment as to present intractable pain. This has been the case for 19 years and could have been detected with a simple xray rather than complicated senseless diagnostic testing. My point is doctors are not infalible I have been to two of the best ortho surgens in the Tampa Bay area and the highest regarded neurosurgen during my therapy and they just looked at the cat scans and stated that I had a lateral fracture that would heal itself. Another point is that don't always overlook simple test and proceedures. If anyone has had treatment for a similar condition let me know please as I am now refered to a neurosurgen this week. Thanks, and GOD bless all.
