re my decompression lamenectomy spinal fusion i cage and 2 screws for the one rod I finally got to feeling good surgery was March 23 my 3month dr check said all was healed wouldn't have to see him again. On Saturday I overdid it picked my 20 pound grandson up from the floor a few times. Now my lower back hurts so bad the pain pills aren't even helping. Mornings are better than evenings. Is it possible to break cage or rod after it is healed from picking up grandson from the floor? or will this just go away again eventually? Haven't called Dr. yet too scared of what the results may be!!!! I never want to go through another surgery never it was terrible. So if anyone has any advice please please respond to this or email me at clydejudy7@gmail.com.

I have had 2 Laminectomy's one in 1995 and one in 1997. These were recommended due to Degeneratie Disc Disease. I have recently under went another surgery, Laminectomy with insertion of rods and screws. It has been 6 weeks now and I feel I just exchanged one kind of pain for another. I still have a tingling in my legs, though different than before. I feel the "hardware" in my back I guess that keeps me straight. I have yet to try the stairs as when I first tried them, for Dr's appt. I was down for a day and a half after. It just wore me out. I wish I had done my research a little more before undergoing this again. My first 2 surgeries were done by an Orthopedic Surgeon, this one was performed by a
neurosurgeon. Good luck.

I have a very strange story to tell. In 1991 I was involved in a very serious auto accident while wearing a shoulder harness and seatbelt. I went to hospital in extreme pain. The obvious was that I had scalped by hair in the center of my head from hitting the steering wheel. The shoulder harness allowed me to slip slightly sideways out of the harness enough to hit the wheel. Cat scan was only test ordered and radiologist siad it was unremarkable and my cervical spine was fine. continued incredible pain caused me to get second opinion from ortho surgen. Ortho surgen looked at cat scan and ordered another one because he saw what looked like a C3 lateral fracture. The second cat scan did shoe inconclusive shadow at C3 and my ortho surgen sent me for therapy for a year. Pain got worse with every therapy session until I went to my own personal primary care doctor who prescribed injectable stadol because I didn't want opiates. This and a portabel tens unit made everyday pain tolerable, but the therapy sessions made it impossible. I toughed it out and after therapy was over I went to pain management clinic (a very legitimate one) which did facet injections with temporary relief, epidurals which did not help (don't get these), and oxycontin, oycodone, and celebrex. I had good enough pain control to go back to work as HVAC technician, but still had pain with the meds. Continued from 1992 until today July 2010 with ever increasing and changing narcotics, Lyrica(recommended), Voltaren, baclofen, amitriptaline, oxycodone, and ms contin. Here is the strange thing. None of the pain management doctors or orthopedics every ordered a static xray series until I went to a urgent care center todayand the doctor sent me to his xray tech. When he got the xrays on his light board he actually exclaimed, "Holy God", I have never seen this. this doctor has a 30 year history as a orthopedic specialist, but not surgery. He showed me on my xray that my C3 spinous process had been shoved down so hard that it had pushed the C4 spinous process down. The injury is so old that the C3-C4 spinous process are fused naturaly resulting in tilted vertabrae which the doctor stated should cause so much nerve impingment as to present intractable pain. This has been the case for 19 years and could have been detected with a simple xray rather than complicated senseless diagnostic testing. My point is doctors are not infalible I have been to two of the best ortho surgens in the Tampa Bay area and the highest regarded neurosurgen during my therapy and they just looked at the cat scans and stated that I had a lateral fracture that would heal itself. Another point is that don't always overlook simple test and proceedures. If anyone has had treatment for a similar condition let me know please as I am now refered to a neurosurgen this week. Thanks, and GOD bless all.

Shirley,
The other things I have been doing is just taking it as easy as I can. It hasn't been easy because I am a person who loves to keep busy, but between reading, praying, relaxing, my dvr and even playing some video games, (lol), things arae progressing (slowly). Things are going very slow, so do not expect things to be great overnight. I did try some exercise's, and it didn't work out well, but I do hear that if you do not do you physical therapy as hard as you can, meaning try very hard with out pushing to much, YOU WILL NOT GET BETTER. I will pray for you and the rest of all of you, I will check back to see your progress. "In god we trust", you have it on your money, so you may as well have it in your life!! Take care, In Jesus Name I pray!

Even if he wants to break up it is better to just slowly let them try to figure it out and decide what they want to do. Often they are unhappy but even they don't know what they want to do, try to stick with the partner or get out. Sometimes it takes them a long time to decide and sometimes they go away and wind up coming back, they realize it is not really what they wanted. It is good for the man to try and figure it out himself. Sometimes it really is better to split up, both woman and man are happier. But often it is illness that drives two people apart and often men have no idea what to do. A counselor can help both, just be as non judgemental and try to stay calm as you can.

Well about the husband that does not pay attention to his wife...and goes out with friends...men often avoid their feelings by keeping busy with their male friends, if they are afraid of illness or pain they try to avoid it. Especially older men even some young ones, they cannot talk things out so well and they bottle it up. Don't get mad or make assumptions about what is going on in his head or what he wants. Try to just in baby steps get him to just once in a while talk a little, and try to give him some kindness. Sometimes you will be amazed what is going on in their heads is not what you thought it was.

hi i had my neck fused due to a rupture. I had a great surgeon. My scar in front of neck ,my recovery was 6 weeks, most important to me is I have seen multiple neck surgerys some wore collars for months and to this day cant turn their necks very good. and they differ mine was painful and recovery was no breeze but what helped me the most is getting out of the collar as soon as possible because if u have ever worn one for any reason they limit your mobility .So listen to your dr. but I have no pain after 5 plus yrs and no restrictions on movement

I went to the Dr. today and he is sending me for a Myleogram. Can anyone give me some advice on what to expect? He said he saw fluid around my discs on my MRI. Could this be fluid leaking from my spinal cord? I'm upset about this, due to the fact that this is a 2nd back specialist that I've been to and the MRI he saw this "fluid" on, is from the 1st specialist I went to and did my 1st and 2nd back surgery. Why didn't the 1st specialist see any of this fluid?
